Today part 3

After our morning walk and picnic, graham stayed home with Patrick and Piper and I went downtown to do a return at Anthro. I also needed to get some shoes.

We hopped on the train.

It drops you off already inside this shopping center downtown. The mall is relatively new and still trying to gain traction. I love it though for its amazing convenience right on our very own blue line.

Piper exclaimed "it's beautiful!" I've never heard her call anything else beautiful, so I guess this place made quite an impact on her.

it turns out it was members day at Anthro so there was a little party happening. But there were way too many fragile things there to get any serious shopping done, and I didn't even take advantage of the store wide 20% off. I should have bought a necklace or something!! But we went outside instead.

They make sushi at the downtown WALGREENS, weird right?

They male sushi at the downtown walgreens, weird, right?

We ran across the street and printed some photos off the iPad for Patrick's dad, then instead of shoe shopping, I took piper to the Disney store. Even though Disneyland was in our backyard growing up, I'm not really a Disney person. But about a week ago we put Toy Story 3 on, and well, now we have watched it every day since. Piper is mesmerized by it. It's the first movie she's ever watched (she usually just watches tvshows like fresh beat band, Dora, or Mickey mouse clubhouse. we tried Cars once, and alice in wonderland once when it was on tv, and she was not interested at all. We just haven't gotten around to any others). Like I said, she loves it. And after dancing with some pirates on a big screen inside the Disney store she was excited to find a stuffed woody dolL. The Disney associate asked piper where woodsy best friend was, and tried to sell her on buzz (which really meant she was trying to sell me on their 2 for $30 pricing, which actually is a pretty good deal, but we don't need a lot of toys at home).

Wish I could say it was a tough choice, but only one came home with us.

And we hopped on the train home, with no new shoes for my feet, and no 20% off Anthro goodies, but with a very happy and tired little girl.

They were all taking pictures of the train, so I did too.

fancy seeing you here, woody!

She was sooo excited to tell Patrick that she got Woody.

Today part 2

More impromptu picnic pics.

She honestly thinks that when she has her Nikes on, she has to run everywhere.

And back home!

Today

Before I start, I just have to acknowledge that when I was rushing to get out for a walk this morning (so we could get back in time for graham to nap), and I grabbed piper a shirt and sweater off the floor, I didn't realize that I would be blogging two days in a row. So... Yes, piper is wearing the same shirt/sweater as yesterday. There were noodles on her shorts, or she'd probably be wearing those again today too.

Heres a snippet of our Saturday.

We started off with a walk while Patrick cleaned the kitchen.

Per said, "here you go, baby. Baby for baby!" and plopped that sucker right on Graham's face. He didn't care. Maybe he thinks it's normal to all of a sudden not be able to see anything. It must be confusing being a baby.

Just walking around, and thinking about how i wished I could spend the whole day oitside, I realized this is the weather that I had during the last few weeks of maternity leave with piper. Made me remember the days when she was smaller than graham, and how we could spend an entire day on a blanket at the park.

We stopped at cippolina for iced coffee and a parfait for the pipes.

Then we may or may not have stopped at the 'glazed and infused' doughnut window. I ever tell you guys about the week I craved doughnuts while pregnant? Well, another time. But there's only one kind of doughnut I like. Any guesses?

We quickly stopped in to the wicker park market for milk and then made our way to the park at the end of our block.

She is like a mini super mom, at just 25 months. She has mastered the "backwards underhanded behind the back bottle feeding" technique. Now if I can just get her to change diapers.

Yesterday

Sometimes (most of the time), it's really hard to get out the door in the morning. Especially this week while Patrick was in Minneapolis. Usually he dresses piper, while I'm feeding the baby. Then he's on his way, and i get graham and myself ready.

Our beloved art easel doubles as a teepee!

Sometimes I strap poor little piper into the stroller if shes being an extra curious two year old, so i can finish getting everything together without worrying about what she might be up to. And sometimes she is very interested in what i'm doing, and just stays close by instead. The rest of the morning consists of packing breast milk, getting my pumping bottles, tending to piper's curiosities, burping the baby, wrestling a two year old into pigtails or a pony, sneaking in a snuggle, and finally grabbing miscellaneous items for the day: laptop, phone, keys, spare clothes for the kids, diapers, daycare payment, my lunch, whatever else, etc. Sometimes these things are ready from the night before, and sometimes this requires turning the house upside down. Every morning I cross my fingers that we make it out the door without a blowout and necessary wardrobe change.

Then we go through the grand exit ritual. Which from piper's side sounds like, "Let's go! Come on, mom mom! I press button. Basement! ...B! I hold keys? I hold keys? I hold keys? Pweeeeeaaze? Hold your hand? Watch out for cars! Put stuff in! All by self. No! All by self! Seatbelt! Missmanda's? See Aunni? Get baby brother!"

From my end it sounds like, "Ok, we're going. Go ahead and push the button piper. Wait for mommy. Yes, we're going to the basement. What letter is this? What do you need to say when you're asking for something? Come on, hurry out before the door closes. Yes, hold my hand. Good job, watch for cars. Can I have the keys back please? Hop in. Ok, ok. Where do you think we might be going this morning? Who are your friends at school?"

All the while I'm pushing the double stroller loaded with our stuff, or parking it in a utility closet next to my parking spot. Once piper is in the car, I can't yet put the baby in, because the other side of my car is parked half an inch (ok two inches, which is not an exaggeration) from a wall. So I get in, pull the car out, then get back out of the car, hurry over to that utility closet area I mentioned (the door is at least permanently propped all the way open, so it's more like a utility hallway) and grab graham from the stroller to put him in the car. Then I push the stroller deeper into the closet in hopes it doesn't get stolen while i'm at work, hop back in the car, and we are FINALLY on our way!!

I am so nervous that one of these days I am going to take right off and forget my son in a garage closet. That's why piper helps me remember, "get baby brother!" once we are in the car. Haven't forgotten any children yet!

I drop the kids off at Miss Amanda's and get to work about 3 hours after waking up.

Last night after picking them up, Patrick still wasn't back from his trip because his plane was delayed, so after a few errands with two kiddies, we needed take out.

Lest you fear I let my child eat weird MSG-laden Chinese food, first of all, it's Japanese :) and the Bento Box is very good :)

She loves using chopsticks.

We took a break from eating to check in with Patrick, still delayed in MN.

Then she decided to go in on my chopsticks, my jidori, and my "pickles." they were just cucumbers, but we've been making homemade pickles lately and so she was convinced they were pickles.

I offered her a small piece of my chicken. She reached out, PET it, and said, "aww, baby chicken! so cute!" and she wouldn't eat it! What???

It was a long week but I still loved it.

Off topic: we're all in stripes

Just getting around to trying the blogsy app on iPad. If this post turns out as easily as it seems to be going, then you're going to be seeing a lot more of us on this here blog...

These photos are blurry, but my striped crew is pretty cute nonetheless.
